As Luke so profoundly pointed out to me: "pushing 18 days now
without a gloriously technicolour photograph to goggle at".
Yeah, I know. Let's just say that I've been busy.
Very busy.
But I owe the world a blog entry, and so here I go.
While it's not in technicolor, I've been fond of these
two black and white images for a long time. I took them
one clammy morning many years ago, while staying on a boat in
the Puget Sound harbor town of Olympia, Washington State.
Braving the chill and dampness of a typical Washington
morning, I remember crawling out of my warm bed,
glimpsing outside, and without hesitation, climbing
outside to capture the preternatural mood of this
morning.
Droplets of dew were everywhere, making
the dock slippery, but also revealing the simple
beauty of a spiderweb, clinging to the bow of the
"Snog", a 1940s lifevessel that had been converted
into a small houseboat. The fog and the dew lasted
only another hour - giving way to an unusually sunny
and warm day in Olympia.
And speaking of black and white images: The New York Times
has a fantastic (albeit very long)
article in its Magazine section about
the photographer Diane Arbus. Most interesting...
